Over the week, the petition has gained some traction, starting with just over one hundred signees. It now has racked up over eight hundred signatures and counting.

We’ve all had neighbor drama, sure, but most of our neighbors probably wouldn’t petition to kick us out. That’s the uncomfortable situation Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, are currently experiencing in their Hidden Hills neighborhood. More than 800 people have signed a petition urging them to relocate because of Petty’s status as a registered sex offender.
Although the petition was created in December, right after Minaj and Petty purchased their $19.5 million home, more than 500 people signed it this week, likely spurred by Petty recently updating his information on the Megan’s Law website, TMZ reports.
Beverly Bardan, the Hidden Hills resident who created the petition, wrote on the petition that Petty living in the neighborhood would lower home values because he is a registered sex offender who, she believes, has a “high likelihood to reoffend.” She added that “the Petty couple” moving in “would lead to children and women being a target.” (Other celebs in Hidden Hills include Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and Jada and Will Smith.)
The legal drama surrounding Petty goes back to 1994, when then-16-year-old Jennifer Hough told police that Petty, who was also 16 at the time, had raped her after holding her at knifepoint. Petty was charged with first-degree rape, later pleaded guilty to attempted rape, and spent more than four years in prison for that charge, the New York Times reported. In 2006, per People, Petty went back to prison for seven years after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the shooting of a man named Lamont Robinson — something Bardan noted in her petition. Petty is currently on house arrest for failing to register as a sex offender when the couple moved to California.
